Don Burkholder is a preeminent scholar and researcher in the field of probability. He came to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1955 and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1964. He was named a permanent member of the University of Illinois Center for Advanced Study in 1978 and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1992. He served as the editor of the Annals of Mathematical Statistics and President of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
This volume contains 26 invited papers written by leading experts in probability and related areas. The articles reflect a wide range of mathematical research to which Burkholder contributed and represents some of the exciting activity in probability research today.
